Welcome to Man Cave Metal created by a true gear head. David Hans, a retired mechanic, grew up in a junkyard and owned an automotive shop in Sevierville for over 20 years. He eats, sleeps, and designs automotive décor and furniture. Like most mechanics, he’s always been surrounded by other mechanics, machinist, welders, hot rod artist, and gearheads. Over the years they’ve all had their artist moments. Those creative moments are showcased in our unique store. Our store is a collaboration of our family’s creative minds thinking outside of the box. In March of 2015, we decided to take the dream to reality and with a leap of faith in like-minded gearheads, we opened Man Cave Metal. Please enjoy our store.
Man Cave Metal’s artist/owner is a unique blend of gear head and artist. David Hans, born in Chicago, grew up in the playground in the shape of a junkyard. He transplanted to East Tennessee and opened an automotive shop in Frog Alley Sevierville. For over 20 years he serviced the citizens and tourist vehicles in this area. In his limited spare time, he raced. He made it into NASCAR ARCA. After going through one too many walls upside down and on fire he retired the Two Bros # 55 race car. His parents knew at an early age that he was mechanically inclined. Everything he touched was to be taken apart to see how it worked. The story goes… His cousins loved to have him visit, but they had to hide their toys before he got there! This inquisitiveness was encouraged by his family. At age 11, his father gave him a broken down old truck and told him he could have it if he could fix it. After replacing the engine and everything else he could by himself, he shocked everyone by firing up the old pick up bringing it back to life. From that moment on he was a gearhead.
Man Cave Metal proudly showcases Master Craftsman Bill Smith. Bill is father-in-law to Man Cave Metal’s owner David Hans. Bill has been building furniture in this town for over 40 years. If your parents have a tater & onion box from Pigeon Forge, chances are he built it. Shortly after retiring he was called upon to re-open the wood shop. He didn’t like retirement anyway. Showcased here at Man Cave Metal is a collaboration of wood & metal. These pieces of art are custom-made and only available here within these walls. How privileged we are to continue a strong heritage of Appalachian custom wood work handed down through 5 generations of wood Smiths.
